Southwest Florida angel investors are now the largest backers of Kind Designs, which builds environmentally friendly Living Seawalls using 3-D printing technology.

NAPLES, Fla., (April 21, 2025) — Angel investors from the Tamiami Family of Angel Funds invested an additional $1.05 million in Kind Designs, a Florida-based climate-tech company that manufactures environmentally friendly Living Seawalls to protect coastal communities from rising sea levels.

With the most recent investments, Tamiami Angel investors are now the largest backers of the company.  “Kind Designs is exactly the kind of exciting Florida-based company we are eager to fund: it combines a sound business plan to fill a large market need with clear environmental benefits for our vulnerable coastline communities,” says Timothy Cartwright, partner of Fifth Avenue Family Office and chairman of Tamiami Angel Funds in Naples.

Miami Beach-based Kind Designs uses 3D-printing technology to print seawalls that mimic coral reefs and mangroves, hosting biodiversity and improving water quality while dissipating wave action.  The company’s Living Seawalls are reinforced with recycled ocean plastic fibers and contain embedded water-quality sensors to create a global network of water data.  Kind Designs is benefiting from government mandates to raise seawalls, the need for environmentally friendly building materials in marine construction and the competitive edge of lower installation costs.

“I really credit the pace of our growth to our investors, they opened a lot of doors for us,” says Kind Designs Founder and CEO Anya Freeman, who notes that the company now has a $10 million sales pipeline.

In particular, Freeman credits Tamiami Angel investors with helping identify prospective customers like municipalities and government agencies for large seawall projects.  The new capital will be used to expand robotic capacity to handle big government projects, such as recent contracts with waterfront military bases.  “Tamiami Angels invested in every round we ever had,” says Freeman.

Thanks to investors like Tamiami Angel Funds, Kind Designs has expanded to a larger 50,000-square-foot warehouse on the banks of the Miami River from where it can transport the walls more easily by barge to residential, commercial and municipal projects.  The company’s three 3D printers can also be transported to a job site.  Tamiami members invested $610,000 from their fifth fund and $440,000 from a Tamiami special purpose vehicle to arrive at the total of $1.05 million.

Naples-based Tamiami Angel Funds are member-managed funds that allow high-net-worth individuals and families to invest in promising early stage and expansion-stage companies located in the U.S., with a preference to those in the state of Florida.  For more information about Tamiami Angel Funds, visit www.tamiamiangels.com.
