The Tamiami Angel Funds emerged from the Gulf Coast Venture Forum (GCVF), a non-profit founded in 2001 to strengthen Southwest Florida's economy by connecting Angel Investors with local entrepreneurs. Recognizing limitations in their informal investment model, regional leaders were inspired by Florida's 2007 Capital Formation Act to explore a more structured Regional Angel Fund.
A comprehensive 2008 study, the Southwest Florida Regional Angel Fund Assessment (SWFRAFA), evaluated the entrepreneurial ecosystem and recommended establishing an Angel Fund. Supported by 12 key regional organizations, Tamiami Angel Fund I, LLC was created to support local innovation.
Following its success, GCVF transformed into FusionPointe, a venture development organization dedicated to creating investor-ready startups in Southwest Florida.
